Mouthcare during childhood cancer treatment
This resource has been developed by PICS, Victoria’s Paediatric Integrated Cancer Service.
Chemotherapy and radiation are used to destroy cancer cells, but it cannot tell the difference between healthy cells and cancer cells. As a result, some healthy cells in the body are also damaged. This can cause a sore mouth.
The leaflet below will help parents, carers, and families of children who are receiving chemotherapy or a bone marrow transplant to care for their child’s teeth and mouth.
If your child has a sore mouth, speak to your cancer team.
