Swallowing - information for residents, families and carers
A translated resource with information about the signs and management of swallowing problems for people living in or visiting the residential aged care facility.
Some older people experience difficulty swallowing (dysphagia), often due to muscle changes, medical conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease or dementia, or changes in taste, smell or teeth. Swallowing problems can lead to coughing, choking, chest infections, weight loss and dehydration, but they can be treated.
