Organ and tissue donation: What is organ and tissue donation and why is it important?

Organ and tissue donation is a process where you decide to give an organ or tissue to save or change the life of someone who needs a transplant. Donation involves removing organs and tissue from a person (a donor) and transplanting them into someone who is very sick or dying (a recipient).

You can donate some organs and tissue when you are alive. Most donations come from people who have died.
