Grief Guide - What happens next and what you can do

Developed in partnership with Roses in the Ocean and supported by South Eastern Melbourne Primary Health Network, this resource has been created to support members of the South Sudanese community through the complex experience of grief after suicide.

It provides culturally informed guidance on understanding grief and mourning, including what to expect in the first month and beyond, and how to take care of yourself and others during this time. The resource also offers practical advice on what to do if you can’t attend a funeral or ceremony, visiting the place where someone died, and navigating social media after a loss.

With dedicated sections on supporting children and young people, managing special days and anniversaries, and recognising the effects of grief, this resource helps individuals, families, and communities find ways to honour loss, stay connected, and access support in culturally meaningful ways.
